Our ancestor, James George Currie Schisler, moved to BC from Ontario to take up mining and strike it rich. His older and only brother, Hiram Schisler, preceded James to BC. While Hiram was prospecting in the mining industry, he contacted James to move his family and seek his fortune in BC. Neither struck it rich in BC.
Hiram eventually moved his family and himself back to Ontario in the early 1900s. In 1909 Hiram bought out the remaining member's of his family's father (George Schisler) and then owned the original homestead. Hiram was the Assessor of the Township of Crowland six consecutive times, declining a further appointment and offers of elections to other offices.
My research confirmed that their dad, George Schisler, had only two sons who reached their adult years; Hiram and James George Currie. It was my interest to identify if we had any living Schisler relatives from Hiram's family?
Their dad George Schisler's father Peter Schisler had a number of sons who survived into adulthood so they would have generated their own Schisler family trees in Ontario or south of the border.
Hiram's male descendants:
Only son Merritt Cleveland Schisler born 1888 in Crowland, Ontario and died in 1954.
Merritt Schisler married Gladys Seger December 25, 1911 in a Methodist church in Ontario. They had four children; three girls and one boy.
Raymond Chester Schisler was born in 1917 and died in 1995 in Welland, Ontario. Raymond did not marry and had no confirmed children.
This means that from the male lineage of George Schisler born in 1842 our "BC Branch" founded by George Ivan Schisler (son of James George Currie Schisler) are the only surviving Schislers. Any direct Schisler relatives to our branch would need to be related through the sons of Peter Schisler with their dads born in the mid 1800s. We are talking very distant related.
This is inclusive of George Ivan Schisler's brother Fred. Fred while born in Ontario, came to BC with his dad of course. His son Clifford Schisler had one son being Mark Schisler. Mark Schisler (born February 23, 1957 Kitimat, BC) had no children.
